'Hoo Crew FAQ

I just signed up for 'Hoo Crew online. How do I get my t-shirt and Orange Passport Card?
You can pick up your Orange Passport card before any non mens basketball Orange Passport event. To see a list of Orange Passport events, click here. Please note that this does NOT include men’s basketball games. We are usually set up at the top of the baseline student section for women’s basketball games. Once you pick up your card, you can get it scanned right there for that event. After you get your card you have to register it on SHOTS to receive any Sabre Points. We have run out of 'Hoo Crew shirts for this year.

How do I register my Orange Passport card? Why do I have to do this?
To register your Orange Passport card, log into SHOTS by clicking here. Once you log in, you should see a link of the left side called “Register Orange Passport Cards.” Enter the barcode number on the back of your card. You will not be able to get any of your Sabre Points until you register your Orange Passport card.

What is the difference between Sabre Points and Men’s Basketball Points?

Sabre Points are collected by getting your card scanned at all Orange Passport events. These include all women’s basketball games, and select games from other sports. Men’s Basketball Points are collected by getting your printed out Shots ticket scanned at Men’s basketball games.

How do Sabre Points work with timed entry?
Timed entry will take the sum of all of your Sabre Points and Men’s Basketball Points to determine entry time. The more total points you have, the earlier you will be allowed to enter the arena for men’s basketball games.

How can I look at how many Sabre Points I have? Why can’t I see men’s basketball games?
To look at how many Sabre Points you have, log onto SHOTS and click on “Orange Passport Card Sabre Points.” Here you will see all of the points you have accumulated from Orange Passport events ONLY. Men’s Basketball Points will not show up on this page.

How can I look at how many Men’s Basketball Points I have?

To look at how many Men’s Basketball Points you have, log onto SHOTS and click on “Attendance History.” You will be able to see the total number of Men’s Basketball Points at the top, and also a breakdown of games. On this page, you will also be able to see any Sabre Points you have.

Why is my point total different from the sum of the points in the itemized list of games?
When points are added manually after the initial upload from the scanners, they will not appear in the itemized list. If your point total is more than the sum of points in the itemized list, this probably means some of your points were adjusted afterwards. This happens if there is an error in scanning, or more commonly, if you attend an Orange Passport game in which the scanners were not working and we collected names. In those cases, we have to manually add points to your accounts by adjusting the point totals.

When and where can I get my Orange Passport scanned?
You can get your Orange Passport scanned at all Orange Passport games, as shown on the Orange Passport page. You can collect Sabre Points for these games only. For women’s basketball games held at John Paul Jones Arena, we are set up either right inside the student entrance, or more commonly at the top of the baseline student seating section. You can get your card scanned from the time doors open (for women’s basketball games this is one hour before tip-off) up until 15 minutes after tip-off (by real time, not the game clock). After this time has passed, we will no longer award points for the game.

I have a suggestion for a chant or another in game activity; what should I do?
We have a Spirit Committee which meets weekly. Meeting times will be anounced once school starts in the Fall. The committee works on chants and cheers and other ideas to create an intimidating atmosphere for opponents in JPJ. We would love to have your input and encourage you to come out to the meetings. If you cannot make a meeting, but still have a suggestion, you can either email Greg, our Spirit Chair at gac5a[at]virginia.edu, or sign up to use our message boards to discuss ideas.

I just picked up my Orange Passport card; can I still get Sabre Points for Orange Passport games I attended before picking up my card?
Unfortunately, you can only get Sabre Points for those games you attend in which you have your Orange Passport Card in hand.

Why has my group number changed on my ticket even though I’ve attended all the events between two games?
Just because you were in a certain group number for one game does not guarantee you to be in the same group or higher for future games. The SHOTS system divides all students who requested tickets evenly into 10 entry groups to spread out the crowds. Each entry group can hold a maximum of 288 people. In cases where not as many students initially request a ticket, there will not be as many people in each entry group. For example, if only 288 people initially request a ticket, there will only be 10 people in each entry group. So while you may have been in entry group 1 for one game, and now you got bumped down to a lower group, this is probably because there were a different number of students who initially requested a ticket.

I forgot to request a ticket for a men’s basketball game in the initial request period! Can I still go to the game?
Even if you miss the first ticket request period, there is still a chance you can get a ticket for the game. Keep checking back on SHOTS and look at “Print on Demand” tickets. They will be available until all tickets are distributed.

What if I have specific questions about the SHOTS system and how it works?
The best place to go would be the SHOTS home page. All the details about SHOTS and men’s basketball tickets can be found here.
